Independent midwives offer personalised one-on-one maternity care - with women and their families..Our philosophy of care is that birth is a normal life event and does not benefit from an over-medicalised one-size-fits-all approach. Does it really make much difference? Yes! Every birth is a unique and wonderful experience for the parents, which should remain a long lasting happy memory. Research has confirmed better outcomes when the main carer during the birth is known to the woman. We support women during the transition to motherhood and focus on their needs, and are not restricted by the maternity service limitations that can lead to defensive practice, and we challenge the escalation of unnecessary interventions. Our care revolves around the woman, our visits are arranged at times to suit family and work commitments and are usually in the woman’s own home. Our personalised and friendly care leads to us developing a relationship with clients based on mutual respect and we often become a trusted family friend. Smaller case loads give us more time to support women according to their needs, and most visits are around 1 hour long –both before and after the birth- and we are available to women 24/7. We are also more than happy to work with other practitioners both within the NHS (GP’s, hospital based midwives, doctors and consultants) and complementary (i.e. reflexology, homeopathy, hypnotherapy, acupuncture etc). Partners are involved throughout the birth and report increased satisfaction and preparedness for fatherhood. Such an empowering experience will help result in confident parenting It is this care that sets a good foundation for future family well-being.
