Gaps for Grumpies gets the over 40`s in on what has traditionally been a student preserve- the GAP. GfG, which was set up in 2006, now operates in 5 countries worldwide – Ghana, Peru, Tanzania, Kenya and Fiji- providing grumpies with the opportunity of 2 and 5 week placements working on projects in villages in rural areas (often without electricity or running water). Volunteers are normally organised into groups of 8-10 and may be helping rebuild a classroom in the morning and helping teach primary school children in the afternoon. Grumpies have also helped in orphanages, built a bakery, dug storm drains and coached rugby. GfG is aimed at those who have energy are reasonably fit and want to put something back. Most of our volunteers have either decided to take a mid career break, just retired, been made redundant or just want to do something very different for their main annual holiday. Gfg also offers a range of holidays to follow the project from one to three weeks to provide the grumpy with a little bit of luxury and the opportunity to explore the country they have been working in.
