West Riding Archaeological Consultancy
Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S11 7EZ
West Riding Archaeological Consultancy (WRAC) offers its services across a broad spectrum from national institutions and corporate bodies to individual concerns. It specialises in commercial first-stage evaluations, field reconnaissance and heritage management. The company is situated in Sheffield and lends specialist environmental support to planning and development in the North and Midlands. WRAC is operated by Dr. Philip Sidebottom BA PhD AIFA, a graduate in archaeology and prehistory from the University of Sheffield, subsequently obtaining a PhD at the same institution. Consultancy work has been provided since 1996 for many national and local concerns, including English Heritage and the Peak District National Park Authority. Dr. Sidebottom is also a corporate Member of The Institute for Archaeologists - IFA (No 1430). Services: • Rapid Assessment Surveys • Desktop Evaluations • Mitigation Proposals • Impact Assessments • Historic Landscape Assessment Planning authorities sometimes require an evaluation of the archaeological potential of a proposed development site and this is the specialism of the Consultancy. WRAC can also provide a quick and inexpensive preliminary indication of the archaeological potential of a proposed development, without committing to a full investigation, to get a ‘feel’ of what might be involved. The cost of this can be absorbed into a full desktop evaluation should this be required later. Desktop assessments are prepared in accordance with the Institute for Archaeologists (IFA) ‘Standards for archaeological desk-based assessment’.
